Hideaway - Adaptation - Script
FADE IN:
INT. HOUSE - LIVING ROOM - DAY
LITTLE SISTER, age 5. OLDER SISTER age 11. OLDER BROTHER, age 15.
MONTAGE:
We see two sisters sitting in a fort in the living room. They both are dressed up as knights, though their armor and sword are just made out of cardboard. Little sister is wearing a plastic crown.
Little sister is giggling quietly.
We hear a roar from outside of the fort when older brother pops out. Older brother is wearing a dragon like onesie.
OLDER BROTHER
(in a low growl)
Hah! I found you two alas. You can't escape from me, knights!
Little sister squeals.
OLDER SISTER
Not if we get you first!
Older sister runs towards Older brother.
CUT TO:
INT. HOUSE - HALLWAY - DAY
LITTLE SISTER, age 7. OLDER SISTER, age 13. OLDER BROTHER, age 17.
Older brother is pushing older sister and little sister down the hall in a wagon. The wagon is decorated into a cardboard spaceship.
They're all wearing very large astronaut helmets.
LITTLE SISTER
Oh no! Ahead! There's too many asteroids. We'll never make it.
OLDER SISTER
Of course we can! We're astronauts! We can do anything! Hold on!
They weave around the furniture cushions that are scattered all over the living room.
They turn the corner.
CUT TO:
EXT. HOUSE - BACKYARD - EVENING
LITTLE SISTER, age 9. OLDER SISTER, age 15. OLDER BROTHER, age 19.
Older brother runs out to the backyard where a treehouse sits about 8 ft. off the ground.
OLDER BROTHER
(shouts)
Wander into the unknown!
Both sisters pops their head out from the window of the treehouse.
LITTLE SISTER
High and far above!
Older sister then throws down the ladder. Older brother climbs up and pokes his head into the treehouse.
OLDER BROTHER
What are you two doing hiding away up here?
LITTLE SISTER
Hideaway with us!
Older brother climbs all the way into the treehouse. Door closes.
CUT TO:
INT. HOUSE - UPSTAIRS - EVENING
LITTLE SISTER, age 11. OLDER SISTER, age 17. OLDER BROTHER, age 21.
Little sister is running around the house with a toy airplane in hand.
She runs pass older sisters' door which is cracked open. Little sister gets excited and wants older sister to join her. Little sister goes into older sisters room.
We see a boy and older sister in the room. They both turn around.
OLDER SISTER
What- what are you doing? Get out!
Older sister push little sister out of room and closes the door behind her.
In hearing the door slam, older brother pokes his head out in the hallway. He sees little sister looking confused. He approaches her.
LITTLE SISTER
Who was that?
OLDER BROTHER
Your older sister is busy right now. You want to help me build a city?
CUT TO:
EXT. HOUSE - BACKYARD - AFTERNOON
In the rain, little sister is hiding in the treehouse.
Looking in the house, we see older brother's room light on. He's packing up for college.
EXT. HOUSE - BACKYARD - MONTHS LATER
Time fades showing brothers room now more empty.
We see older sister walking around the house. Older sister sees light on in the treehouse, which we see now that the season has changed. Curious, she approaches the treehouse. She calls out.
OLDER SISTER
Wander into the unknown!
LITTLE SISTER
(unenthusiastically)
High and far above.
Older sister waits a beat.
OLDER SISTER
You wanna let me up?
Little sister throws down the latter and older sister climbs up.
OLDER SISTER (CONT'D)
What are you doing hiding away up here?
LITTLE SISTER
He's coming back, right?
OLDER SISTER
Of course, he's coming back.
Older sister pauses a beat. She starts digging through the treasure chest. She pulls out an astronaut helmet.
OLDER SISTER (CONT'D)
You remember this? Astronaut 47223, roger?
Little sister thinks for a second. After a good minute, a smile creeps in the corner of her mouth.
CUT TO:
INT. HOUSE - FRONT DOOR - EVENING
LITTLE SISTER, age 13. OLDER SISTER, age 19. OLDER BROTHER, age 23.
Older brother is about to leave once again.
In the hallway, we see older sister and little sister whispering/giggling to each other. Older sister points towards older brother.
Little sister runs up to older brother and yanks on his arm.
Older brother turns around.
LITTLE SISTER
Hideaway with us.
Little sister pulls out a plastic crown.
After a beat, older brother grins.
INT. HOUSE - LIVING ROOM - DAY
Next thing we see, the three siblings are in the exact same place as 8 years ago.

All the siblings pile on top of each other laughing.
